Project Description

The Massonjore dam is constructed across river mayurakshi at Massanjore in santhal pargana district of Jharkhand. A barrage is constructed at Tilpara, 32 km downstream of the dam. Two main canals, one on the left bank and other on the right, take off from the barrage. There are four pick-up barrage, two on each side, where the rivers Bakreswar (Bakreshwar weir) and Kopai (Kopai barrage) (on the right side) and Dwarka (Dwarka barrage)and Brahmani (Brahamani barrage) (on the left) cross the canals. The total length of the main canal is 216.71 km and that of branch canal is 147.07 km. The CCA of the project is 2,26,720 hectare spread in the districts of Birbhum, Murshidabad and Burdwan. The ultimate irrigation potential is 2,46,963 hectare.
